NATO Cold Response 26: 14 Country Joint Defense Exercise in the High North
A large-scale exercise involving 14 NATO member countries tested Arctic region defense preparations and multinational operation integration in Norway.
Buz and Steel: NATO's Cold Response 26 Exercise Shakes the North The Cold Response 26 exercise, conducted with the participation of the land, air, and naval forces of 14 NATO member countries, has been completed in Norway. The exercise tested the capacity to conduct combat operations in the Arctic environment under harsh North climate conditions, while simultaneously testing amphibious landing operations, rugged terrain logistics, and armored ground combat procedures.
US Marines, Norwegian ground forces, and allied European units moved in tandem, putting into practice the 'integrated operation model' that is increasingly important in the current period. The exercise was carried out despite the awareness of the tensions and security planning in the Northern corridors, which have been shaped by Russia's military presence in Ukraine and the outbreak of the Middle East conflict.
Arctic routes are becoming a critical factor in potential NATO-Russia tensions, as they will determine the functionality of sea transportation routes, supply lines, and nuclear submarine secrecy zones from scratch. From a defense strategy perspective, the Cold Response exercises are the most important mechanism in confirming NATO allies' commitment to participating in large-scale operations on Norwegian soil every year.
Norway is continuing its investments to strengthen the comprehensive Nordic Defense Cooperation framework, which deepens the integration between Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian forces.
