The health implications of PFAS exposure are being actively researched, with increasingly strong evidence linking certain compounds in the family to immune system disruption, thyroid dysfunction, elevated cancer risks, reproductive health impacts, and developmental effects in children. The European Food Safety Authority has lowered its tolerable weekly intake estimates for PFAS in food and water multiple times as new evidence has accumulated, reflecting scientific consensus that previously applied limits underestimated the risk.
