What Is a Ceasefire?
Ceasefire explained simply A2 level
A ceasefire is an agreement to stop fighting. When two sides in a war agree to stop shooting and bombing, this is called a ceasefire.
A ceasefire is not the same as peace. Peace means the war is completely over.
A ceasefire means the fighting stops for now. Sometimes ceasefires are temporary.
After a ceasefire, countries sometimes start fighting again. Sometimes a ceasefire is the beginning of peace negotiations.
Negotiations are talks between two sides who disagree. They try to find a solution that both sides can accept.
Right now, there is fighting between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Many countries want a ceasefire.
The G7 countries discussed this at their meeting on March 27. Iran says it will allow aid ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
This could be a small step toward a ceasefire. But a real ceasefire needs more steps and more talks.
