Cyberattacks: a key term used in this report

A hacker is a person who uses computers to enter other people's accounts or systems without permission. Hackers do this for many different reasons.

Some hackers want to steal money or information. Others want to create problems for governments or companies.

Some hackers work for governments. They are called state-sponsored hackers.

In a war, hackers can attack websites, emails, and computer systems of the enemy. This is called a cyberattack.

In March 2026, a pro-Iran group attacked the FBI Director's email. The FBI is the main police organisation of the United States.

This attack was embarrassing for the US government. Hackers can find passwords using special software.

They also use 'phishing'. Phishing is when a hacker sends a fake email.

The email looks like it is from a bank or government. When you click a link, the hacker can steal your password.

To stay safe: use strong passwords, do not click strange links, and use two-factor authentication.
